I forgot to take a picture before we
cut the existing bumper, so I had Josh and Micheal hold it in
place. I think this bumper was originally fabricated in
1973. It holds a 1973 Warn M8274 reconditioned
winch.. |
|
With the roller fairlead off, this is
what it looked like after the cut. Some re-inforcement
to the corners was next. |
|
Once the edges were trimmed, the bottom
was boxed in with 1/8 steel. I still need to weld in
jacking points for the high lift so it wont slide when
jacking. |

REAR |
|
This is what my anchor looked like from
the rear. I built the spare tire carrier in 1995
We decided to eliminate the spare tire carrier altogether for
departure angle. |
|
The spare tire carrier will be
relocated to the top of the vehicle. That's the next
project. A rack for the top of the roll bar. I
want to get the family bar in place so a can build the full
integrated rack. |
|
In progress. While we dismantled
the reciever hitch, we went ahead and removed the rusted rear
tank, awaiting the building of the oversized tank that will be
going back in there. |
|
We got the 4x2 .180 wall square tube
cut with the beveled edges. We still have to cut the
fenders so the bumper extensions will wrap forward. For
right now, we need to cut in the reciever and weld on shackle
holders for tugging on those unfortunate
Chevys. |
|
After a nervous day with the SawzAll, I
finally committed and cut out the corners to increase the
departure angle and smooth out the corners on the
bumper. |
|
One last fit before the primer and
paint goes on. The next pic should show mounting and
reciever hitch install. Stay tuned! |
|
The tube was cut to fit the reciever in
and then welded. Bracing on the back and shackle mounts
are next. Then the final coat of paint! That was a
6 Taquiza weld
job! |
