Kilauea Crusher Desert Scramble

I had an OCMC (Off Camber Motorcycle Club)  member (Dennis) get us motivated to race the event.  I've never raced dirtbikes at any level and was excited, nervous, anx'd, etc.... I was asking everyone for information on these types of events so I wouldn't look like a blarring newby...well the green backgrounds and white letters take care of that!! HAHA

Everyone that said they were going to race with me pulled out.  Alone and gonna do it!  New Year's resolution.....  I got my friends and family to come out to the event.  At the entrance was met by a really friendly knowledgable young man who helped us sign the appropriate forms....

Figuring out tech was a no brainer...straight through.  Registration group were all friendly and very helpful.... great... I am ready to race!

I can say the line up for the C riders was a cluster.  I didn't know where to be and I found out i wasn't alone..... but it got worked out as me and another guy got called out of the crowd...barely lined up and some flag guy said GO GO GO!!
The guy I lined up next too got the holeshot and first corner... once I got moving my nerves started to calm down, but i was holding on to those bar too tight!  I dont consider myself fast, so i wanted to concentrate on just finishing the race, proving to myself that I could handle the stamina..... well..... get someone in front of you or right behind you and it's game on!!!  Woohoo!  I am racing!!!!!!

Jenna gett'n a good view!
By the time I reached the first hill I was winded, forearm pump and suprised to see a traffic jam.  Not sure of the gentlemenly thing to do I waited in line for a shot up the hill.... I was sure I was halfway through the first lap, when i looked down at my gps and I had only gone 1.87 miles.  Thank GOD for the rest at the bottom of that hill....  the other hills I went right up and was glad I had been practing in that type of terrain the last few weeks.  I hit the sand wash thinking I can do this and fast and i ate it hard into a tree as i blew a sand berm!  The wind had been knocked out of me and all I could think of is not letting that guy behind me pass me...so still no wind in my lungs I blasted on.....the second half of the first lap I caught myself thinking do I rest on the rythum sections or make up time?  Coming to the end of lap one I felt a huge energy boost by all the crowd along the track cheering us on!  WOW!  What a feeling.  Second lap I cut 10 minutes off my first lap.  Another WOW>  Good rythum again, no traffic jams.  I went down about 4 times blowing corners, but still battling different riders and having fun!

As I came to the end of the second lap, I had my groove, felt rested and got the checkered flag.... AHHHHHH man!  NO !!!  I wanted to go three!  So close!

I was super happy get 9th in the 40+C class and 33rd overall!  I think I am going to like this series.  I really appreciate all the work the AMRA, OCMC and sponsers put into the event.

Also glad Khris worked out his demons in his bike in short time and made the race!  And got 1st in his class!  nice job bro!

p.s.  Anyone find my GPS between 3-6 miles (Blue GARMIN w/ "Motoman Lives" on the splash screen?)

See you in Mammoth... (32s)
