Engine Rebuild, Part III
We were running into some weird problems with the open adapter we got from a Bronco shop with our Quadrajets. Bumpy idles, lean cylinders and off line hesitation. We figured the 1/2" open area under the carb could be causing this.... So we configured a (Q-jet manifold to a Edelbrock carb) adapter to work with the Q-jet. The mounting holes were backwards. So Vince milled the holes we needed and helicoiled the other holes to bolt the carb down. So far so good! Idle is awesome and no off the line hesitation. |

I used this lift plate from Checkers to hoist the engine. With all the new fasteners in the motor I needed a safe place to lift from. Not a bad deal for $9.99
My daughter Amber was a great help getting the motor back into the Bronco. Between her keen eye and our triple checking as we went, it went in very easy.
Just about got her in here! Making sure we did not dent or scratch any vital components. |
|
Finally set down on the motor mounts. Then comes the fun part! Bell housing, motor mounts, hoses, radiator, coolers, wiring, batteries all have to go back in! |

Sunday about 6pm we turned the key! Why is it that no matter how careful you are, the distributor always ends up being 180º off? Scary sound when you here that backfire on the first key turn! Once we adjusted the distributor, it ran awesome. 20 mins @ 2000 rpm to break in the cam. Dodi (my wife) helped me keep an eye on things during the run in....... Wouldn't you know it.....keeping with the Motoman's Madness attitude, we had to light em up in front of the house! :) Check out the pics and video below!! |
